Rustic Bakehouse
Rustic Bakehouse sits on the main street of Cressy, at its heart a 1926 woodfired Scotch oven that bakes the artisan breads, pizzas and pastries the locals love.
This single oven is what drew Katie and Jarrod Lamprey from Western Australia and Victoria all the way to Tasmania, fulfilling their dream to run their own woodfired bakery. This was a dream that was ignited more than a decade prior, when the couple worked together in a Victorian bakehouse. After years of saving and searching for woodfired ovens, Katie discovered this Cressy gem, and the family took the plunge into their new venture.
Rustic Bakehouse opened its doors to the Cressy community in 2016. Master Baker Jarrod works ovenside and Katie, who previously worked in hospitality management, works in the bakehouse with their cafe team. Though the town may be small, the constant support for the bakehouse has been great.
The bakehouse has quickly become the heart of the community and counts Cressy locals, farmers, seasonal workers, tourists and day-trippers as regulars.
"Many of our regulars work at Burlington and we see them every day, making Burlington Berries an important part of our business,” reflects Katie. "Agriculture is woven into the fabric of Cressy, and businesses like Burlington are at the centre of our community’s prosperity.”
Katie and Jarrod embrace the small town lifestyle and take pride in supporting local businesses, crafting their products with locally sourced ingredients.
The ever-growing pastry range even features some of our own Burlington Berries, sprinkled atop doughnuts, cronuts, muffins and flans.
Rustic Bakehouse is a much loved hub of hearty food, coffee and community, enriched by local produce and people. Find them at 78 Main Street in Cressy
Burlington Berries was established in Tasmania in 2012. Originally from NSW where the Sutherland family has farmed for generations, Kate and Stewart purchased Burlington Farm in 2010 as a location for their premium pasture seed business Upper Murray Seeds. In 2012 they joined with long term friends and 50% business partners Marion and Jon Regan and they established Burlington Berries. The next generation of Sutherlands now call Tasmania home, working alongside their parents to deliver a ‘Better Berry’ for all Australians to enjoy.
