Pack house Manager
I am responsible for the overall operation of the pack house, including the packing of fruit, logistics, management of staff, packaging and reports. My day-to-day operations are always different, and I am constantly learning and growing, meaning my position at Burlington Berries is always keeping me on my toes, and I am excited for what comes next.
The onsite pack house at Burlington Berries is an integral part of the operation, often responsible for the make-or-break of quality of shelf life. My responsibilities within the pack house are to organise our team and ensure the pace, care and efficiency in which our berries are packed and packaged. There is lots of pride present within my work, as our pack house is what sets Burlington apart as an innovative leader within the soft fruit farming industry.
Managing the everyday happenings of the pack house requires a diverse skill set that has taken years to develop. Being tested and challenged constantly with how the pack house could become more efficient, or new ways technology could aid in the quality of our work, keeps me constantly learning and growing.
During harvest season I never seem to stop! I thrive on the adrenaline and fast pace of the pack house during these times. Maintaining a challenging yet consistent environment for our pack house staff to thrive in, so that we can supply Australia with a ‘Better Berry’, is at the top of my priorities.
10 years ago, I was a stay-at-home mum, and when the opportunity to work for Burlington Berries during school hours was presented, I took it and didn’t look back. Working at Burlington allows me to still enjoy being a mother while also being in a management position because of the flexibility of my work.
How much I have grown professionally is what excites me most about working at Burlington Berries. It is great to have had secure employment that has allowed me to move from the position of a packer, to being one of the staff responsible for a large portion of Burlington’s operation. The team and workplace environment ensures that you feel like part of a family when working for Burlington Berries. This supported employee culture allows for each individual worker to grow and advance their careers with confidence.
Burlington Berries was established in Tasmania in 2012. Originally from NSW where the Sutherland family has farmed for generations, Kate and Stewart purchased Burlington Farm in 2010 as a location for their premium pasture seed business Upper Murray Seeds. In 2012 they joined with long term friends and 50% business partners Marion and Jon Regan and they established Burlington Berries. The next generation of Sutherlands now call Tasmania home, working alongside their parents to deliver a ‘Better Berry’ for all Australians to enjoy.

Working with our trusted partners, Driscoll's and Hugh Lowe farms, Burlington has access to over 120 years of collective agricultural knowledge and innovative distribution and management techniques, allowing us to focus on growing a better berry for all Australians to enjoy.
